Happy Memorial Day weekend, friends.  I always feel very pensive on Memorial Day more than other holidays.  I am so thankful to live in a free country, one that values women’s rights and free speech, among many other things.  But this freedom has come at a price.  And I just want to briefly express my heartfelt gratitude to the men and women who serve our country so bravely and to their families who also make a huge sacrifice.  In my professional space, Memorial Day weekend represents backyard BBQ’s and recipes for red, white and blue tarts.  And it is always a good thing to be able to relax and spend more time with the people we love.  But I don’t let these days go by without also saying my prayers for those have lost their lives so that we can enjoy our freedom.

Life goes on, and I do hope you are having a lovely weekend.  I have another dinner planner ready to go:

Mixed Berry Oat Bars Recipe

It’s the weekend!  And it’s long one!  Let’s celebrate with some homemade treats!  Full disclosure — I actually posted these bars many years ago.  But the images were so atrocious and I also updated the preparation method, so I thought it would be appropriate to re-post.  I have no doubt many of you will be hosting or attending backyard shindigs this weekend.  These are THE perfect dessert to bring to a fancy or casual affair.

Well, let me tell you, Sunset Magazine knows how to throw a party.  I was only able to attend one day of their Celebration Weekend in Sonoma this past weekend, but it was amazing.  Live demonstrations from food to gardening to outdoor grilling, plus wine, shops and live music.  I was gone for a quick 24 hours, but it was worth it.  I demonstrated a recipe from my new cookbook, which is out on June 13th — mini lemon yogurt cheesecakes, to be exact.  Cooking that recipe and talking about the book made it all feel so real!  I am getting super excited!

Dinner Planner: Week of May 22, 2017

I hope you’re having a nice weekend!  Depending on when you’re reading this, I am either en route to or in Sonoma for Sunset Magazine’s Celebration Weekend.  I am so excited since I am huge fan of Sunset Magazine and Sonoma is probably one of the most beautiful places in California.  Hubby is coming with me, too!  I am doing a live demonstration of a recipe from my cookbook, Kitchen Matterswhich comes out on June 13th. (By the way, the pre-order price on amazon is only $13!!  The breakfast chapter alone is worth that!)

Crazy time of year with all the end of school year stuff.  Gotta stay organized!  Here’s your dinner planner for the week ahead:

I have been having so much fun lately with a bunch of new cookbooks, like this one from America’s Test Kitchen, called “Vegan for Everybody.” I was fortunate enough to hear Jack Bishop, ATK’s Editor and Chief Creative Officer, present this book at my local bookstore, Pages. I am fascinated by testing recipes and making the subtle tweaks towards perfection. There’s no one in this space who does it more rigorously or better than America’s Test Kitchen.

More friends with new books!  My friend Phoebe Lapine from the award-winning blog, Feed Me Phoebe, just came out with The Wellness Project, a book which chronicles her yearlong quest to heal her autoimmune disease and find that middle ground between health and hedonism.  Phoebe achieved this by making one lifestyle change, one month at a time and without giving up her life.  Phoebe’s story is so inspiring and her book offers readers loads of practical advice from cleaning up our beauty products and our kitchens, to delving deep into hormones and digestion.  I could go on and on, but you’ll have to check out the book for yourself!

Dinner Planner: Week of May 15th, 2017

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mamas out there!  My gift for Mother’s Day is that my older daughter is coming home from college on Tuesday.  I could not be more excited!  I am patiently waiting for her to tell me what she wants me to cook this week, but I know she is super busy studying for finals.  At least that’s what I hope!

Here’s a great dinner planner for the week ahead:
