AH, the beginning of summer!  I don’t really even have big plans this summer, but I am thrilled to have a more relaxed schedule.  Most of all, no making school lunches! I cook more simply in the summer and I take full advantage of the great produce which has a short window (I see you, tomatoes.)  I still write a dinner planner every weekend no matter what.  It’s my routine and I couldn’t live without it.  Here’s your dinner planner for the week:Continue reading

Dinner Planner – Week of June 18, 2018

I know many of you started your summer last week or even several weeks ago, but my youngest was still in school up until this past Wednesday.  So we are just easing into summer right now and it feels GOOD!  I have all the kids home for the next week and then they go in different directions at different times.  Sigh.  I’ll make the most of it. 🙂

Lest I forget to wish all the dads out there a Happy Father’s Day, including my own amazing father and husband.  Thank you to all of you dads who are incredible role models for our children, and who help support raising them to be independent, kind, and meaningful contributors to our world.  I hope you enjoy the day and have the opportunity to spend it with the ones you love.

This was a busy week!  I started my new breakfast menu this week and it is crazy good!  Having the best time teaching it.  If you subscribe to my monthly classes, the breakfast menu will be released towards the middle of July.  I just filmed the next class which will be released in a week or so.  If you are an online cooking class member and you have joined the private Facebook page, I’ll be LIVE Saturday morning (June 9th) at 9:00 am PST/12:00 EST.  Bring all your questions and we’ll get into it!

It’s practically summertime and my cooking/entertaining strategy has already shifted. I’m making mental notes of easy-breezy recipes with lots of color and freshness.  Even though I feel comfortable cooking any recipe in any cookbook, I don’t feel as though I have to prove anything to my family and friends.  That’s not why I invite them over.  I’m all about having fun and not creating more work for myself, especially in the summer!Continue reading

The end of the school year is intense!  So many events, projects, games, the school play, meetings, YIKES!  Staying organized is key right now.  On another note, for my Orange Counnty friends, I’ll be doing a free 1-hour workshop in Newport Beach at Roger’s Gardens on Sunday, June 3rd at 10:00 am.  RSVP if you can, otherwise come by to say hi!  RG will have my cookbook available for sale and I’ll be signing books after the workshop!

I am so excited to share a recipe on the site with tempeh, a fermented soy product that I really like and one that I have been using much more since Mr. Pamela Salzman (LOL) became WFPB (aka whole food plant-based.)  Tempeh may not be as mainstream as tofu, but I think it’s actually more nutritious and I like it just as much.  Tempeh is made by fermenting cooked soybeans and then pressing the mixture into firm slabs.  Most of the tempeh I see in supermarkets may also contain beans, grains and seasonings.  And actually, there’s a Korean vendor at my local farmers market who makes “tempah” with no soy, only beans.Continue reading

Memorial Day weekend is not just a 3-day weekend, but a time to be grateful for the ultimate sacrifice our military made for us so that we can enjoy the freedoms we do and that we often take for granted.  I appreciate the choices I am permitted to make this weekend – I am going to try to not work too much, be present when I’m with my husband, kids and my friends, and move slowly this weekend.  I am going to take some walks on the beach, have a cocktail or two, and unplug as much as possible.  For all of those things, I am grateful.

In other news…..my newest online course is up and ready for you to subscribe!  It’s the Mexican menu I did last month and it’s AWESOME!  Here’s the link.

Also, I will be at Rogers Gardens in Newport Beach on Sunday, June 3rd at 10:00 am!  I will doing a free seminar called “Gardening for Your Well Being.” Click here to RSVP.  Rogers Gardens will also have my book available for purchase and I will be available afterwards to sign.

I am in Dallas as you read this, so forgive me if I’m not quite as present on Instagram as usual.  It’s not every day that my daughter graduates from college!  My husband and I are beaming with pride as we celebrate her and her achievement with our extended family.  I’ll be back soon, but I haven’t forgotten this week’s dinner planner:Continue reading
