Thanksgiving Leftovers Salad with Cranberry Sauce Vinaigrette Recipe

Every year on the day after Thanksgiving, we have our leftovers traditions.  For breakfast, my daughters dig into pie and Hubs toasts leftover cornbread to eat with coffee.  I do a scramble of chopped leftovers and tofu.  Then lunch is some sort of chopped leftovers salad with or without a stuffing waffle (take stuffing and combine with a beaten egg or two and cook in a greased waffle iron); and dinner makes use of the turkey stock that has been simmering all day.  You got it – soup of some sort like lemon-barley or turkey tortilla.Continue reading

Planning a Happy Thanksgiving 2021 – 1 week to go!

This post has been edited from the original which was published on November 17, 2011.

It’s always hard to accomplish your Thanksgiving tasks when you don’t know how many people you’re having over or what your menu is!  But my menu is done and we will be approximately 14 people, including two daughters who are coming home for the holiday.  I am so excited to have all my kids in the kitchen this year prepping and cooking with me.  I had a stroke of genius 9 years ago, which was to tack my Thanksgiving to-do list on the refrigerator and have everyone sign up for three tasks.  Even my husband helps out!

It is so unbelievable to me that I didn’t teach a single in-person Thanksgiving class once again this year.  I normally teach 5 per week for 3 weeks!  I miss my peeps. Sigh.  I have done most of most grocery shopping other than a few items which need to buy when I pick up my turkey.  I plan the days leading up to Thanksgiving pretty carefully so I don’t forget anything and also so that I have a list to cross things off (that makes me feel so accomplished!)   I think about regular meals and activities, too. Here’s what my schedule will look like from Sunday until we eat on Thursday at 4:00 pm (-ish). This shouldn’t make you feel exhausted, but merely show you what you can do ahead for your own Thanksgiving!  The Chalkboard Mag published a really great blogpost five years ago with tons of tips from lots of food experts (including me!)  I highly recommend giving it a quick read.

As if I hadn’t already told you, my Thanksgiving ebook is available for only $15!

This PDF contains all my Thanksgiving recipes, tips and tricks, in one document!  You will have everything you need to plan and execute your best Thanksgiving ever, says me and everyone I know who has bought it.  Click here to access the Thanksgiving ebook.

Tart Cherry Pie with Lattice Crust Recipe

In paid partnership with Walmart+. All opinions are my own.

Canned tart cherries were my introduction to shopping at Walmart. Several years ago, I became obsessed with making a tart cherry pie for Thanksgiving.  It was my missing link. A tart cherry pie would make my Thanksgivings complete. But I could not find tart cherries anywhere – not canned, not frozen (unless I wanted to pay $100 in shipping from Michigan), and certainly not fresh. Until my search landed me at Walmart and led me to become a regular Walmart shopper.Continue reading

Planning a Happy Thanksgiving 2021 – 2 Weeks and Counting!

This post was edited from the original published on November 10, 2011.

Life is unpredictable, but Thanksgiving is not and it is 2 weeks away!  My family and I are excited!  Don’t let these Thursday posts stress you out.  The whole point is to show you what you can do in advance, not what you must do in advance.  All these tips and strategies are most relevant to the hosts and hostesses who are preparing most or all of the meal themselves and who have a busy schedule leading up to the holiday.  If I didn’t get a lot of these tasks completed early, I don’t see how I could pull off this meal without tons of stress.

I’m so thrilled so many of you are happy with the Thanksgiving ebook! Thank you for sharing all of your feedback.  For those of you on the fence, if you are planning ANY large holiday gathering or meal with many components, this ebook will be the best $15 you have ever spent!  Click here to get your ebook.  ðŸ™‚

If you miss taking my classes, I am offering my online Thanksgiving class as a single class with no requirement for a subscription.  It’s a video with 5 brand-new, never published recipes (not even in the ebook) + 2 live zooms for Q&A.

Slow Cooker Roasted Turkey Breast Recipe

I can’t imagine cooking anything other than a roasted spatchcocked turkey for Thanksgiving.  It is hands-down my favorite way to prepare a whole bird (technically it is not whole because the backbone is removed, but you get the gist.) BUT, if I need to supplement with something smaller than an entire bird or I need to cook extra turkey in something other than my occupied oven, I am doing a slow cooker bone-in turkey breast.Continue reading

Dinner Planner – Week of November 8th, 2021

I hope you survived Halloween!  As soon as I woke up the day after, I was already in Thanksgiving mode.  I don’t like to announce my 2021 Thanksgiving ebook or Thanksgiving online class before Halloween because I think most people cannot focus on two holidays at once.  But here we are, less than 3 weeks out, and it’s time to plan.  I am offering my November class for a 1-time purchase, as opposed to subscribing for a 3-month minimum.  The class video and recipes in the November 2021 class are all new and not even in the 2021 ebook (which has 13 more recipes than 2020.).
