Dinner Planner – Week of August 31st, 2020

My dear friends, it was not until I sat down to create this week’s dinner planner that I realized I never published a dinner planner LAST WEEK!  In all the years I have done this, I have never actually completely forgotten to press “publish.”  You know I was at my mother’s house last week with my sisters and their families and I was obviously lost in vacation mode and a digital detox.  I profusely apologize!

In other news, my newest 4-week bootcamp is going live this Tuesday!!  This course is all about making a Plant-Based Diet work for you!  It does not mean being vegan.  It does not mean you have to give up your favorite animal products for the rest of your life.  It’s about finding a way to eat in a way that is accessible, comfortable for you and your family, and maximizing nutrition for longevity.  Join me and a group of incredible motivated and like-minded people!!  Use the code PB100 for a $100 discount off this course!!

I’m back in LA after the most special and perfect week on Long Island.  I went for it.  Traveling is dicey these days as we all know, but I did everything I could to reduce my risk and be with my family whom I haven’t seen since Christmas.  The N95 nose pain and sweaty face from wearing a tight mask for so many hours was worth it.Continue reading

I am on vacation this week on Long Island with my family and I really had no idea how much I needed a break and a change of scenery.  I wish I had planned for 2 weeks here since 5 days in and I’m just starting to unwind.  We are having a great time hanging out, cooking together, swimming, puzzling, and the usual.  We aren’t going on any outings obviously, but it’s no big deal.Continue reading

Dinner Planner – Week of August 17, 2020

I just arrived in Dallas for my daughter’s postponed college commencement.  I am very happy for her that she will be able to have her once in a lifetime event, even though it’s not exactly how we all thought it would happen.  I’ll be here for less than 24 hours and then it’s family time on Long Island!  You know this is my favorite week of the year and I couldn’t imagine not going.  This virus is here to stay, so I think we have to respect it, be smart, and find a way to live life around it.  I’ll be posting my meals and such on Instagram all week.  There will be pizza involved!!  Here’s your dinner planner for the week:Continue reading

Dinner Planner – Week of August 10th, 2020

I know many of you on the East coast are still without power after Hurricane Isaias blew through.  I hope all will be back to normal soon.  I know times are tough right now, but this situation is temporary.  Things that I have been doing to keep my mood up are eating well (good food can boost your mood and toxic food can worsen your mood), getting sunlight every day, getting adequate sleep, having a gratitude practice daily (we do have much to be grateful for despite everything), not starting my day or ending my day watching the news, and staying connected with friends (even if it’s a phone call or via zoom.). I try to do some meditation as well when I remember.  😉

Dinner Planner – Week of August 3rd, 2020

Just hanging out here in California, friends.  Just doing my best to stay healthy and sane.  That’s about all I’ve got.  If you take my monthly online cooking classes, I am doing another FB live with you Saturday (August 1) at 10:00 am PT!  I am looking forward to our socially distant time together.  One thing I want to emphasize to everyone is that there is no better time to take a hard look at our diet and lifestyle.  There is no better time to ask ourselves what changes we can make to up our nutrition and lessen inflammatory influences in our lives.  I am doing that very thing and having this conversation with my family.  I’m sure it’s no secret to anyone reading my blog that it starts with food!  Here’s your dinner planner for the week:Continue reading

Salmorejo Recipe

Last summer, back when we could travel without weighing the pros and cons, I went to visit my daughter who had an internship in Pittsburgh.  We were invited to my friend Joaquin’s house for dinner one night.  Remember when we could dine with friends indoors and without masks??  Sorry, but I am a little cranky today!  Joaquin is from Spain and is the most effortless and relaxed cook.  I have learned a few recipes from him over the years and they’re the kind that you make for the rest of your life – easy, delicious, healthy, classics.  Continue reading

Dinner Planner – Week of July 27th, 2020

I know it’s hot everywhere in the country except where I live and I am wearing a sweatshirt to go on my walks in the morning and my down vest to take the dog out at night.  We never use our air conditioning but we do light the fireplace if we sit outside after the sun goes down.  I have to remind myself that when I plan the week’s dinner planner, that most of you are struggling with heat!  When in doubt, put raw veggies, a dip, cheese, tomatoes and bread on a board and call it dinner.  Add olive oil and flaky salt if you have friends over.   Here’s your dinner planner for the week:Continue reading
