I’ve given birth to three children, and I still remember the feeling of anticipation right before they each arrived.  Maybe you have experienced the same — simultaneous waves of excitement, nervousness, joy and pride.  If you’ve hung around here long enough, you know that I am not about to have a baby, but instead a new book, my first.  And you know what?  It’s almost the same as having another baby!  Actually, my beautiful new book was delivered into my anxious hands last week and I could not be more excited and more proud for you to meet it!  The book is officially published this Tuesday and I hope you’ll do me the honor of ordering a copy (Amazon or a signed copy from my local bookstore.)  Makes a great graduation, teacher, or Father’s Day gift!

In the meantime, I have to be super organized the next few weeks.  I’m in New York the early part of this week and again next week.  Also, I have 2 LA events that you are invited to attend this week and then 2 more after this week:

Thursday, June 15th 6-8pm at Thomas Hayes Studio in Hollywood.  Moderated by Suzanne Hill of The Chalkboard Mag.  Free, but an RSVP is required.  Click here for details.

Friday, June 16th 1:00 pm at Williams-Sonoma, Beverly Hills. Cooking demo and book signing. Free.

Thursday, June 22nd 7:00 pm Pages Bookstore, Manhattan Beach.  Free.  Please RSVP here.

Thursday, July 13th 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Jenni Kayne, Newport Beach.  Free.

Grain-Free Sweet Potato Pancakes Recipe

I just finished teaching a fabulous breakfast menu last month and these pancakes were a favorite!  I received a lot of great feedback from moms who made these for their kids and had success with even the most finicky eaters.  These pancakes check off all the important breakfast boxes for me:  protein, good fats, fiber/complex carbs.  I talk a lot about these three macro nutrients in my breakfast class every year to help answer the question, “what constitutes a good breakfast?” I actually have no problem with any food for breakfast –  soup, leftovers, a smoothie, a sandwich – provided it has all three of the above. The goal with my breakfast food is to fuel my brain, provide long-lasting energy until lunchtime, and keep my blood sugar stable.

Happy Memorial Day weekend, friends.  I always feel very pensive on Memorial Day more than other holidays.  I am so thankful to live in a free country, one that values women’s rights and free speech, among many other things.  But this freedom has come at a price.  And I just want to briefly express my heartfelt gratitude to the men and women who serve our country so bravely and to their families who also make a huge sacrifice.  In my professional space, Memorial Day weekend represents backyard BBQ’s and recipes for red, white and blue tarts.  And it is always a good thing to be able to relax and spend more time with the people we love.  But I don’t let these days go by without also saying my prayers for those have lost their lives so that we can enjoy our freedom.

Life goes on, and I do hope you are having a lovely weekend.  I have another dinner planner ready to go:

Dinner Planner: Week of May 22, 2017

I hope you’re having a nice weekend!  Depending on when you’re reading this, I am either en route to or in Sonoma for Sunset Magazine’s Celebration Weekend.  I am so excited since I am huge fan of Sunset Magazine and Sonoma is probably one of the most beautiful places in California.  Hubby is coming with me, too!  I am doing a live demonstration of a recipe from my cookbook, Kitchen Matters, which comes out on June 13th. (By the way, the pre-order price on amazon is only $13!!  The breakfast chapter alone is worth that!)

Crazy time of year with all the end of school year stuff.  Gotta stay organized!  Here’s your dinner planner for the week ahead:

Dinner Planner: Week of May 15th, 2017

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mamas out there!  My gift for Mother’s Day is that my older daughter is coming home from college on Tuesday.  I could not be more excited!  I am patiently waiting for her to tell me what she wants me to cook this week, but I know she is super busy studying for finals.  At least that’s what I hope!

Here’s a great dinner planner for the week ahead:

Dinner Planner: Week of May 8th, 2017

I just started a new menu in my cooking classes this past week!  We’re doing a breakfast/brunch menu and it was absolutely delish.  I often post images from my classes on my Instagram stories, although sometimes my students eat everything before I have the chance!  This week is another busy week of teaching, working on an online course I am developing for Clean Eating Magazine, and trying to get the word out about pre-orders for my book (see below!)

Here’s your dinner planner for this week:
