I always made my children and hubs a special dinner and dessert for Valentine’s Day. I loved how excited the kids were when they came home from school knowing that they would enjoy a “fancy” meal and something sweet afterwards. We never had a regular tradition of dessert after dinner. If my kids were hungry, I’d cut them up some fruit. But no one wondered where the cake or ice cream was every night.Continue reading
Thai Kabocha Squash Soup Recipe
One of my goals in creating recipes to teach in my classes is to introduce my students to healthy, whole ingredients that they don’t know what to do with. I used to be really intimidated by many types of produce and whole grains until I just decided to buy them and play with them on my own. It’s a risk, of course, if you really have no idea what you’re doing because the experiment could end up in the trash instead of served up for dinner and money would be wasted as well. Both are a big bummer.Continue reading
French Bread Pizza Recipe
My favorite game day of the year is coming this Sunday and it also the second biggest eating day of the year. True fact! My favorite sport + a lot of food = fun times! I like to come up with crowd-pleasing finger foods and this year I am sharing a major throw-back recipe – the French bread pizza!Continue reading
Tomato Chickpea Stew Recipe
I am STILL purging the pantry/fridge/freezer! Although my husband went to the market on Sunday and came home with tortilla chips and hummus to eat while watching the football games and I almost lost my mind. “Do you NOT watch my Instagram??? Do you NOT understand my January goals of raising awareness of food waste and promoting the exercise of using what we have before purchasing food from the market?? I mean…this is so unacceptable!!!” And then I realized I was not on a reality show, so I calmed down. But I was irritated to be sure.Continue reading
Piña Colada Smoothie Recipe
Who remembers the vintage ’70s commercial for Calgon bath soap, with the lady who has all these stressors like her boss, baby, traffic and dog, and pleads, “Calgon, take me away….” And then she’s in a relaxing bubble bath and all is good in the world. Ok, well even if you haven’t seen the commercial, there are probably some foods that can transport you to a more relaxing place. Piña Colada, anyone?Continue reading
Super Greens Soup with Lemon-Tarragon Cream Recipe
I am not much for New Year’s resolutions anymore, because I try my best to keep learning and improving all year. It’s a little like my (not consistent) meditation practice. I aim to stay present the whole time; and when I drift (which I always do), I acknowledge it and pull myself back in. What I have learned over my many decades here is that life is about love – loving ourselves and others – and learning. How can I continue to better myself to serve others and elevate my soul?Continue reading
Cheesy Pull Apart Bread Recipe
Merry Almost Christmas and Happy Hanukkah! I am taking a wee break from cooking, playing games, watching football, and puzzling to bring you a quick new recipe. This cheesy pull apart bread is 100% fun and super delish, although not exactly consistent with the types of recipes I post here. But I’d like to mention a few things here:Continue reading
Pear-Cranberry Gingersnap Crisp Recipe
I am sooooo looking forward to Christmas; it’s my favorite week of the year. My husband, kids, and I hunker down at my parents’ house on Long Island with my two sisters and their families. It’s pretty chill, as the kids say. We cook together, play games, do a difficult puzzle, watch football and movies and linger at the table for a long time after each meal. It’s simple, but pretty much the best.
